In the two day Qasanov Memorial Meet, Indian track and field athletes lifted 19 medals, which includes 12 gold also. Long jump athlete M Sreeshankar started this winning gold strike with a gold-winning performance of 7.88m in long jump. His national record stands at 8.20m. The other athlete to won gold medal is Mohd. Salahuddin. He won gold in men’s triple jump event with an effort of 16.64m. In men’s triple jump, Mohd. Zuber won silver medal.
The another gold added to the country’s gold haul is by Sahil Silwal. He won the gold by winning the men’s javelin throw event with a personal best effort of 77.40m. Rohit Yadav lifted the silver medal by sending the spear to a distance of 75.36m in men’s javelin throw.
The other athletes to won the gold for the country are Harsh Kumar (400m), Mohammed Afsal (800m), Ajay Kumar Saroj (1500m), Gagandeep Singh (discus throw), Archana (100m), Lili Das (1500m), Navjeet Kaur Dhillon (discus throw), Navjeet Kaur (shot put) and women’s 4x100m relay.

While on day 1, Indian athletes picked bagged gold in the G. Kosanov Memorial international meet at Almaty, Kazakhstan, on Saturday. Athlete Mohammed Afsal lifted the men’s 800m gold in 1:49.12s. In discus throw, Gagandeep Singh (men, 52.39m) and Navjeet Kaur (women, 54.80m) won their events on the opening day of the two-day meet. India also won the men’s discus silver by S. Mithravarun (49.54m) while Jyothi (58.69m) and Anita (55.38) took silver and bronze in women’s hammer throw.
It is indeed a proud moment for country that its athletes won 19 gold medals in a single meet.
