Ex Australian batsman Mark Waugh on slow pitch: Very much on the slow side and offering some turn

Team India has successfully reached the semifinals of the 2019 world cup cricket and will be playing against the mighty New Zealand at Old Trafford. The first day of the match has been delayed due to rain and is postponed to the reserve day today. At the same time, cricket experts from across the world have criticized the slow pitch that was prepared for the semifinal match between India and New Zealand.

New Zealand also found it hard to bat on a slow pitch and they looked struggling to score runs after selecting to bat, once they won the toss. At the end of the play, when rain arrived, they were reeling at 211 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in 46.1 overs.

Former Australian batsman Mark Waugh was the first one to criticize the pitch and he said that the pitch was not looking great and was on the slower side, which offered some turn. He also stated that New Zealand can be in the game if they manage to get around 240 runs.

“Doesn’t look a great pitch at Old Trafford. Very much on the slow side and offering some turn. If NZ can somehow get to 240 they will be in the game,” Waugh wrote.

New Zealand captain Kane Williamson took 97 balls to score 67 runs and even the veteran Ross Taylor had to take 85 balls to score his 67 runs. Former England cricketer March Butcher also termed the pitches at the world cup as garbage, while former cricketer Graeme Fowler called the pitches “Awful”.

Ex cricketer Paul Newman stated that the pitches at Old Trafford were not the same as it used to be. England batsman Jonny Bairstow also said that the pitch was extremely different from the one that they used to play on.

“I feel sorry for the spectators who have travelled and paid hefty prices having to watch this lottery on a very substandard pitch. It’s a disgrace,” ex England cricketer Graeme Fowler stated.

Anyhow, India and New Zealand will resume their matches today, and if the rain does not pour upon, we can see and get some results out of this semifinal match.
