BCCI’s conflict of interest notice to Rahul Dravid upsets Ganguly, Harbhajan

Sourav Ganguly, the former Indian cricket captain slammed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Wednesday for sending Rahul Dravid a Conflict of Interest notice.

Ganguly shared his opinion on his Twitter handle and tweeted “New fashion in indian cricket …..conflict of interest ….Best way to remain in news …god help indian cricket ……Dravid Gets Conflict of Interest Notice from BCCI Ethics Officer.”

Former Indian spin bowler Harbhajan Singh was also not at all happy with the BCCI’s decision and he also replied to Ganguly’s tweet.

Rahul Dravid is currently the head of the National Cricket Academy’s (NCA) Cricket Operations and is in the latest lines of the big names of Indian cricket to get a notice from BCCI’s Ethics Officer on specific Conflict of Interest.

DK Jain, the BCCI’s Ombudsman-cum-Ethics Officer Justice (Retd) sent Rahul a notice after he received complaint from Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association (MPCA) lifetime member Sanjeev Gupta. Sanjeev said that Dravid is the NCA Director and at the same time, he is also employed as vice-president of India Cements group.

The India Cements Groups owns the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise team, the Chennai Super Kings.

Dravid has to file his reply by August 16th and he would also need to appear for an in-person hearing if it is considered important by Justice Jain. Sanjeev Gupta had earlier field similar Conflict of Interest complaints against former Indian stars such as Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman, when they donned dual roles as Cricket Advisory Committee member and the icon of their respective IPL franchises.

Tendulkar, later in his affidavit stated that he has not taken a single penny from the Mumbai Indians for his services. He also stated that he would not like to continue in the position if he is not provided with a proper Terms of Reference.
