Indian Women’s T20 Captain Harmanpreet Kaur joins Punjab Police as DSP

Harmanpreet Kaur who made proud India in Women’s world cup 2017 last year has joined the Punjab police as a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), in Chandigarh, on 1 March, Thursday.

Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh and Director General of Police (DGP) Suresh Arora pinned the stars on her uniform. Captain Amarinder Singh tweeted:

Harmanpreet also tweeted, thanking Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh for pursuing my bond waiver with @RailMinIndia. Your support & encouragement will always keep me motivated to deliver my best. And thank you also, @PiyushGoyal Ji, for your help in the matter.

Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh had taken up the matter Railway Ministry to cease off the bond condition and allow Harmanpreet to join as a DSP in Punjab. Harmanpreet is resident of Moga, Punjab.

A spokesperson of the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) said that the Railways had sent a letter to the government, ‘conveying their acceptance of Amarinder’s request for a bond that claimed to enable the cricketer to pursue her dream of becoming a police officer’.

Harmanpreet had already passed the medical exam for the post of DSP but she couldn’t join because of the Indian Railway’s bond. Captain Amarinder had personally taken care of this matter.

Notably, as per the bond Harmanpreet had signed with terms and condition of Indian Railways, the cricketer could not be relieved until. Otherwise, she would have to return the salary of five years.

Harmanpreet had completed three years of service as Office Superintendent at Western Railway. She had resigned from Railways as Office Superintendent last year.

The Captain Amarinder had offered the DSP post to Harmanpreet in July last year, after watching her performance in the Women’s World Cup 2017.
