Baskin Robin is one of the most loved ice-cream brands for decades worldwide. Baskin Robbins name comes from two partners Burt Baskin and Irvine Robbins. have a look at the inspirational success story of Baskin Robbins.
Irvine Robbins was born on December 6, 1917 in Winnipeg, Canada to parents Aaron and Goldie Robbins and moved with his family to Tacoma, Washington, where they opened an ice-cream store in which he worked and dedicated himself since a very young age. After completing High School, he began his studies at the University of Washington where he earned his B.A. degree in Political Science. Shortly after, he entered the Army, where he served until the end of the Second World War. Upon his return, Robbins opened his first store of ice-cream.
Burt Baskin who was brother in law of Irvine Robbins became his partner in the shop. In 1945, brothers-in-law, Burt Baskin and Irvine Robbins opened their ice cream parlors in Glendale and Pasadena, California without any idea that their shop name will become a world-famous ice cream brand in few years.
Robbins was always experimenting with ideas. This led to the innovation of the 31 ice-cream flavors launched three years later, which gained him international fame. Not only research and lab-tested ice-creams, but marketing was also one of the reasons for BR’s fame.
Excellent examples of their marketing were seen when the Beatles came to L.A. in the sixties, the Beatle Nut flavor was launched almost instantaneously. In the week after Neil Armstrong’s landing on Moon, the Cheesecake flavor was premiered in all of Baskin-Robbins locations. Robbins even changed his car’s license plate to 31 BR.
“You look at any giant corporation, and I mean the biggies, and they all started with a guy with an idea doing it well”. Robbins said in an earlier interview on the secret of making a successful business big.
“I just had the crazy idea that somebody ought to open a store that sold . . . nothing but ice cream, and could do it in an outstanding way,” said Irv Robbins in a 2008 interview shortly before his death at age 90.
Robins became an internationally recognized brand operating and franchising stores in more than 50 countries, all thanks to their innovation, continuous research, and dedication to flavors, quality, marketing and loyalty to the clients which made Baskin Robbins world famous with more than 7500 outlets worldwide.
