Ranveer Singh Reveals He Likes Performers Who Have ‘Chameleon-like Quality’

Ranveer Singh played the role of Allaudin Khilji recently in his blockbuster film Padmaavat. The film has already crossed Rs. 300 crore on the domestic market and has become a huge blockbuster. Ranveer recently revealed in an interview with a leading daily that he was in the dressing room at a swimming pool when he caught a fan filming him naked on his cellphone.

“I was in the changing room, buck naked. I’m drying my hair in one of the stalls. I look and there’s a guy filming with his light on. I was like, ‘Light toh off kar leta, toh pakda nahi jaata’, ” the actor told the tabloid.

Ranveer said, “I ran across the changing room, in my condition and shouted ‘Aye!’ Because of the way I shouted, he panicked and forgot to run away. Can you imagine naked me going, ‘Aye, Aye!’? I caught his arm and I grabbed the phone. Fortunately, I had that presence of mind. If that video came out… I had to destroy it. It goes to this extent almost every other day.”

In one of the other interviews, Ranveer had spoken about why he chooses such challenging roles every time.

“I am attracted to those performers the most who have that chameleon-like quality and have that ability to transform into each character. Like the Hollywood actors Daniel Day-Lewis and Johnny Depp… These are some of my biggest heroes,” said Ranveer.

“They pick an eclectic mix of characters, they keep switching things up from film to film which I have aspired to do in my own filmography. It is very exciting for me to switch things up. It keeps you stimulated, challenged and it is my constant endeavour and I aspire to be recognised as a versatile performer.”

The actor who has courted praise and galore for his role in Padmaavat keeps saying his best is yet to come. “Hopefully, I will continue to work hard. It was a very rewarding process to be playing Alauddin Khilji. I learned a lot and I grew a lot in performing the role and I hope I continue to do that in Simmba, Gully Boy and 83. Having mentioned the three films that I am currently committed to, I must express how excited I am to be working with these filmmakers, some of the finest in the business — Zoya Akhtar, Rohit Shetty and Kabir Khan. Each of them is making a film that has their signature all over it. So, I feel very blessed.”

A source told The Daily that the Deadpool 2 team wanted to hire Ranveer for his mannerisms and mischievous nature but he rejected it due to his schedule. “Ranveer was extremely keen but he just couldn’t make time in his Gully Boy schedule as he is shooting at night every day,” the source said.

Ranveer is currently working on Zoya Akhtar’s Gully Boy where he plays a street rapper opposite Alia Bhatt. He also has Rohit Shetty’s Simbaa where Sara Ali Khan to play the leading lady and Kabir Khan’s 83 – a film on India’s World Cup victory in 1983 under Kapil Dev’s captainship.
