‘A friend in need is a friend indeed’; we have frequently heard this expression which portrays what friendship actually is? It is considered as a priceless bond between two individuals. Every year, the first Sunday in the month of August is celebrated as Friendship Day to praise this bond. This year, it falls on August 4.
Friendship Day is all about celebrating the priceless bond of friendship with our BFFs. It is like turning the pages of life and recalling the wonderful moments we have spent with our friends in school and college.
The idea of Friendship Day was first proposed in 1958, it was at first celebrated only in the USA. However, numerous nations began praising it after it became a huge success there. In 1998, The United Nations, named Winnie the Pooh as World’s Ambassador of Friendship.
The General Assembly of the United Nations declared July 30 as the official Friendship Day. However Friendship Day is generally celebrated in many countries on the very first Sunday of August month. But, in other countries Friendship Day celebration takes place on different dates. In Ohio, Friendship Day is celebrated on April 8 year.
On Friendship Day, BFFs celebrate the day by wishing each other, exchanging cards and going out for a party. A few cafés, diners and open spaces likewise, in their own particular manner, commend this day by offering special discounts. There is also a very common practice amongst the friends to exchange Friendship bands among companions, as a token of their love towards them.
