Meghalaya Will Achieve A New Record By Planting 1.5 Million Trees Under ‘One Citizen One Tree’ Campaign

Today is World Environment Day and to mark this day, the Northeastern state of India i.e., Meghalaya is all set to attempt a world record. The state will plant nearly 1.5 million trees in all the eleven districts of the state. The campaign ‘One Citizen One Tree’ is to be initiated on June 5 and about 1 million trees will be planted in 306 spring sheds in the state.

None other than Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma is monitoring this campaign and urging the people of the state to come forward to plant tress and set the record. He is urging people to lend their support in beautifying the state by planting the plants.

On Twitter, Chief Minister of Meghalaya Conrad K Sangma wrote: “I extend my heartiest greetings on the occasion of #WorldEnvironmentDay to the people of the State. Let us all come out to plant tree today and continue our mission to plant tree”

CM has shown his interest in encouragement of planting of trees in his state. He has been reminding the people to take part in the Government’s latest campaign ‘One citizen one plant.

Meghalaya Chief Minister had also tweeted: “Appeal to the citizens of Meghalaya to join the campaign and be part of our mission to plant 1.5 million trees this World Environment Day. Our journey to create a greener earth should continue beyond the celebration of World Environment Day.”

Sangma also talked the importance of planting trees in his tweet: “Trees are vital for our existence. They give us oxygen, store carbon, stabilise the soil and give life to the world’s wildlife. Let us come together this World Environment Day and beyond to secure our future and make Meghalaya greener, cleaner and healthier”, he tweeted.

West Garo Hills deputy commissioner, Ram Singh had an important meeting on Tuesday with the district officials and other concerned organizations where they discussed how to execute the plan of action for World Environment Day. The deputy commissioner also informed that the State Government has already launched the Meghalaya One Citizen One Tree Campaign on World Environment Day last year.
