India lost the first Test last week in Newlands by 72 runs before going down by 135 runs in Centurion. Kohli’s decision to drop Ajinkya Rahane has proved to be going against the game of Indian cricket team.
In Centurion India dropped Bhuvneshwar Kumar too, who took six wickets and played 127 balls in the first Test.
After a bad performance by the team in the match, Kohli had to face some very tough questions from the media.
In a media interaction, Virat Kohli reacted angrily to journalists when he was asked questions about India’s strange team selection for the two Tests against South Africa. A reporter asked him why Kohli never took the same XI in 34 Tests in charge so far and India’s cricket captain lost his cool.
“What’s the best XI? You tell me and I will play that,” Kohli answered. “The loss obviously hurts. How many matches have we won, tell me? 21 wins 2 losses. I am asking everyone to be hard on themselves. I am not sitting here comforting my teammates.”
Kohli’s aggression with the media was avoidable and soon Kohli realized it and apologized.
“I am here to answer your questions, not to fight with you,” he said to media.
At the post-match presentation, Kohli admitted his batsmen had let the team down after an impressive performance by the bowlers.
“We thought we had our best chance to score some runs, especially after the way South Africa ended the first innings. At that point, we had the momentum. We should have got the lead. It’s the batsmen who have let the team down again. The bowlers did their job again.”
We hope that India plays with better strategies in matches to be played in near future.
