This Museum Shows the Clothes Rape Victims wore at the time of incident, and it is haunting

Whenever a woman is raped, people come up with a justification of the act by saying ‘Taali Ek haath se nhi bajti’ or ‘The girl was asking for it.’

Maybe the girl was wearing a short skirt or was flaunting her cleavage. And we teach the girl to wear proper clothes. But what is the justification when a woman in a burqa is raped, or when an 11-month-old baby is molested? The victims are always blamed. And in a country like India, our leaders come up with the statement like ‘Eating Chowmein causes rape,’ ‘Wearing jeans is the root cause of rapes’.

A woman is always asked about what she was wearing at the time of the incident. So, an exhibition was arranged to showcase the clothes various rape victims were wearing when the mishappening occurred. Have a look:

You know what shocked us? None of the clothes was provoking. There were regular tops, pants, and pyjamas. But there’ something that will haunt you. There was s small sized t-shirt that belonged to a young rape victim. One of the outfits is also a police uniform.

The exhibit was organised at CCM – Centre Communautaire Maritime, by the victim support group, CAW East Brabant.

What are your views about it?
