Padmavati controversy: Censor Board calls Jaipur historians to review the film

The Censor Board has sought the judgment of two expert historiographers from the city of Jaipur on movie “Padmavati” by calling them to view the movie. These historians comprise Professor B.L. Gupta and Prof R.S. Khangarot.

Whilst Gupta is professor of history in Rajasthan Vishwavidhyala and has penned various books on the country during the medieval era, Khangarot is principal of Agrawal College.

While talking to media people, Khangarot stated that the complete fight connected to the film is not between the Karni Sena and Sanjay Leela Bhansali, director-producer of the flick, however between Sanjay Leela Bhansali and olden times and therefore “once we watch the film, it will be clear if history has been tampered with or not”.

Professor B.L. Gupta stated that he was all for creative liberty but then it should not take place without regard for history.

“It should be very clear that we will share the historical facts to the best of knowledge and will not be backing any political party,” Gupta added up.

The longstanding tradition of jauhar (mass immolation) must be shown in actual fact in the movie or else it can have unfavorable effects on the viewers, he stated, adding that it must not be romanticized in the movie in addition.

As per sources, a four-member board has been set up to appraise the movie next month.

“Padmavati”, the 190-crore movie helmed by ace personality Sanjay Leela Bhansali, has drawn irritated complaints in the state of Rajasthan where tassel groups such as the Karni Sena said the film “distorts history”.

Though they have not witnessed the film, heads of the Karni Sena and a number of political leaders said that the 13th-century queen, Padmini, has been disesteemed by Mr Bhansali suggesting in his film that she was tenderly involved with Muslim aggressor Alauddin Khilji.

Bhansali has been constantly explaining that the movie has no scenes, which may upset the emotions of any segment of the public yet has to experience a lot in such a frosty atmosphere.

Let’s hope that Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh starrer may lastly obtain a permission after the special screening for ex royals and historians to appraise.
