Every now and then, science never failed to surprise us with its small or big innovations. There are many exciting concepts be it related to major discoveries or our day to day application of technology which are so simple and yet so important. Let’s take an example and talk about it in detail!
Have you ever wondered about the hole at the top of your BIC or disposable pen cap?
Well, here we are with the reason behind it and yes it is not related to any kind of drying of ink issue related theory. Although, it the hole at the top of the lid helps you to close it properly without the air pressure issue. But it is for more than that.
It also is a life-saving one. Yes, it is simple yet serves the life-saving purpose. Sometimes, kids or even adults accidentally swallow the cap and lodged in the windpipe which results in major consequences.
So the manufacturers add a larger hole to the top of the lid so if this incident ever happens you will be able to breathe that eventually help will save many lives.
“In addition to help prevent the pen from leaking, all our BIC caps comply with international safety standards that attempt to minimise the risk of children accidentally inhaling pen caps,” the company writes on its website. “Some of these vented caps, like that used for the BIC Cristal, has a little hole in the top to comply with the existing safety standards.”
Matt Payton from The Independent reported in 2016, around 100 people loose their life in the US each year from choking on pen lids. Other pen makers also use this idea to cut the rate of danger if swallowed.
Well, you tell us if you know about this already?
